How to troubleshoot the freezing problem of the chiller evaporator?

Insufficient refrigerant. The chiller may leak or seep refrigerant due to long installation or use time. When the refrigerant in the refrigeration system is reduced, the evaporation pressure is too low, resulting in ice on the evaporator. The location of the ice is generally in the front part of the evaporator. The troubleshooting method is to first deal with the leaking part and add enough refrigerant, and the fault will be eliminated.
During the daily use of the chiller, you may encounter the phenomenon of freezing of the chiller evaporator. So why does it freeze? How to troubleshoot the fault?
1. Insufficient refrigerant
2. Low compressor efficiency
Low compressor efficiency, long-term use of compressor failure, reduced compressor compression efficiency, or damage to the compressor gas distribution system, resulting in low pressure and ice.
The ice location is also in the front part of the evaporator. The former adds some refrigerant and the fault can be eliminated. If the fault persists, the compressor must be replaced.
3. Too much refrigerant
The refrigerant is too much. The chiller is refilled with refrigerant due to leakage and other reasons. The maintenance personnel improperly add too much refrigerant, causing too much refrigerant to flow to the evaporator and then partially evaporate and freeze. This type of ice mostly forms on the rear part of the evaporator and around the return air pipe of the compressor. Release the excess refrigerant. The fault is eliminated.
4. Dirty heat exchanger
The heat exchanger is dirty. After the evaporator has been used in the chiller for a period of time, dust in the air or microorganisms produced by the evaporator will accumulate on the evaporator, hindering air circulation, causing heat exchange to decrease, and the evaporator temperature is too low and ice forms. The ice is located at the rear part of the evaporator. After the ice melts, flush the evaporator with water and brush along the fins with a soft brush. Be careful not to wet the electrical part. After cleaning, the fault is eliminated.
5. The temperature is set too low
The temperature is set too low, which can also cause the evaporator to freeze. This type of ice mostly starts to form from the lower part of the evaporator. As long as the temperature is set higher, the fault can be eliminated.
6. The temperature probe is bad or the temperature probe is installed in an improper position
The temperature probe is bad or the temperature probe is installed in an improper position, and the temperature control fails. The gas pressure of the mechanical thermostat temperature sensor changes with the temperature, driving the thermostat contacts to move. Due to contact adhesion, insufficient spring force and other reasons, the contacts were normally closed, and the chiller was turned on continuously, causing ice. Replace the thermostat and troubleshoot.
